Container rail transport from China to Portugal

MEDWAY concluded the first transport of a container from China to Portugal, by train, after a trip through 9 countries on two continents, which covered four different rail gauges.

Carlos Vasconcelos, Administrator of MEDWAY highlights: “We are very proud to have accomplished this unprecedented feat with our partners and international customers. In the year that marks the European Year of Rail Transport, the completion of this service is a clear demonstration of the competitiveness of rail transport and also a contribution to the achievement of CO2 reduction targets. In addition, this transport highlights the expansion of our range of operations at Iberian level.”

The service, to transport 11.7 tons of appliances from China to Portugal, arrived in the country by the Magalhães train, launched by MEDWAY in 2020 and connecting Madrid to Portugal (Lisbon, Setúbal, Sines, Entroncamento and Leixões). The container is currently in the Bobadela terminal, ready to be picked up.
