MEDWAY and GALP, through Transgás, reached an agreement to establish a partnership for the transport of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The contract, which will be signed next week, provides for the annual transport of 800 containers, from Sines, to the various Gasified Storage Units (UAG's), which are mostly north of the Douro region. To this end, MEDWAY purchased 14 specific tank containers for the transport of LNG.This operation, which will include the use of the Entroncamento, Valongo, Bobadela and Leixões terminals, is carried out through an intermodal solution, using rail and road transport. “We are very pleased with the partnership with a major company in our country's economy. This agreement proves GALP's confidence in our integrated freight transport services and is a motivation for the country to continue investing in the future of the railroad, as it is the most sustainable choice when it comes to means of transport ”, highlights Carlos Vasconcelos, Administrator of MEDWAY. “Liquefied natural gas is a potential transition fuel, so we are taking another step towards a zero-carbon industry,” he adds. The transport by rail, of GALP's LNG tanks, allows a reduction of about 70% in CO2 eq emissions, which represent approximately 520 tonnes of CO2 eq annually compared to the same transport by road. The first transport of GALP materials by MEDWAY will take place in November. |
By using freight transport, you will reduce CO2 eq emissions in:
